The Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) party in Tamil Nadu has been the subject of recent NIA raids, which the party claims are politically motivated. The party alleges that the raids were conducted to create a sense of fear and stifle the party’s growth. They also claim that the ruling party DMK and the BJP are targeting them due to their political growth. The NTK is known for its provocative speeches and has faced numerous legal troubles, as well as allegations of promoting disharmony and criminal intimidation.
The party was founded in 2010 by filmmaker Seeman, known for movies such as ‘Panchalankurichi’ and ‘Thambi’. The party has seen significant growth in terms of vote share, although it has yet to win a single seat. NTK is often considered the default choice for voters who have not decided whom to vote for or would have otherwise opted for NOTA.
The party’s propaganda secretary, Duraimurugan, claims to subscribe to the Dravidian ideology and has a controversial YouTube channel with over 1.2 million subscribers. He has been involved in several legal cases and arrests due to his outspokenness against the ruling establishment and the DMK. The NTK claims that the raids were an attempt to create a negative perception of the party and its leaders, while the NIA claims to have recovered incriminating documents during the raids. Despite the legal troubles and raids, the NTK continues to see traction and support on the ground.
