Annie Raja, the Left Democratic Front’s candidate for the Wayanad parliamentary constituency in Kerala, stressed the importance of responsible citizens assessing the performance of their local MP before casting their vote. She emphasized that elected representatives are meant to be with the people at all times and that voters should analyze and assess their candidates before voting. Raja’s candidature comes after the CPI announced her as their candidate for the upcoming polls. The Left parties believe that India is facing fascist danger and that all pillars of Indian democracy are under threat. Raja questioned the Congress’s decision to contest against the Left parties given the current political scenario in India.

Raja highlighted her familiarity with Wayanad, having visited every panchayat in the region as part of her party activities. She spoke about her long association with communist party politics and her role as the general secretary of the National Federation of Indian Women. Raja’s campaign will focus on national issues and the looming threat of fascist forces in the country. She emphasized the need to defend the Constitution and its values, provide education, address unemployment, and ensure equal rights for all.

Raja also mentioned the challenges faced by communist parties in terms of electoral gains despite their active involvement in people’s issues across various states. She expressed puzzlement at the low electoral gains and highlighted the need for the party to continue its struggles and demonstrations. Raja’s campaign will not only address national issues but also focus on the specific local issues of Wayanad. She emphasized the importance of saving the democratic and secular fabric of the country in the face of increasing encroachment by fascist forces.
