Must read

Champai Soren takes oath as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand on Friday after almost two days of political drama and uncertainty. The 67-year-old tribal leader was sworn in as the 12th chief minister of the state and became the sixth CM from the Kolhan region. He was administered the oath of office by Governor C P Radhakrishnan at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Ranchi, with senior leaders of the JMM-led alliance present on the occasion. Senior Congress leader Alamgir Alam and RJD leader Satyanand Bhokta also took oath as state ministers along with Champai Soren.

Champai Soren has been given 10 days to prove his government’s majority, as announced by the state Congress chief Rajesh Thakur. The new CM expressed his commitment to the development of Jharkhand and vowed to continue the fight for the welfare of tribals and others. He also promised to continue the welfare schemes launched by Hemant Soren, the former chief minister. Champai Soren paid homage to tribal icons Birsa Munda and Sidho Kanho, who fought against the British colonial forces, soon after taking oath.

Notably, the JMM executive president Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land fraud after he resigned as the chief minister. Champai Soren’s appointment followed his urgency to the governor to accept his claim to form the government at the earliest due to the “confusion” in the state, which was without a chief minister since Hemant Soren’s resignation.

The political situation in Jharkhand has been tense and uncertain for the past two days, leading to the appointment of Champai Soren as the new chief minister. With the alliance of JMM, Congress, and RJD, the new CM expressed confidence in the strength and unity of the alliance. He emphasized the continuation of the fight for the welfare of the tribal population, as well as the development of the state. Champai Soren’s commitment to continuing the welfare schemes introduced by his predecessor, Hemant Soren, indicates a continuation of the previous government’s focus on social and economic development.

The appointment of Champai Soren was significant as he became the sixth chief minister from the Kolhan region, highlighting the region’s significant role in state politics. Additionally, the presence of senior leaders from the JMM-led alliance at the oath-taking ceremony emphasized the unity and solidarity of the political parties involved.

Champai Soren’s acknowledgment and homage to tribal icons Birsa Munda and Sidho Kanho reflected his commitment to the welfare and development of the tribal population in the state. This gesture also underscored the historical significance and cultural representation of Jharkhand’s tribal communities.

In conclusion, Champai Soren’s appointment as the new chief minister of Jharkhand signifies a new phase in the state’s political landscape. With a focus on continuing the welfare schemes and advocating for the rights of tribal communities, Soren aims to lead the state towards inclusive and sustainable development. The next ten days will be crucial as he seeks to prove his government’s majority and address the challenges facing Jharkhand.
