The Lok Sabha seat of Korba in Chhattisgarh is one of the 11 Lok Sabha seats in the state and was established in 2008 during delimitation. General elections have been held on this seat three times, and the upcoming 2024 elections will mark the fourth time. The seat is currently occupied by Congress. In the first Lok Sabha election in 2009, veteran Congress leader Charan Das Mahant won against BJP candidate Karuna Shukla. However, he was defeated by Dr. Banshilal Mahato of BJP in the 2014 elections. In the 2019 elections, Charandas Mahant’s wife, Jyotsna Charandas Mahant, won against BJP’s Jyoti Nandan Dubey. The results of the upcoming elections are uncertain, as it is unclear which party will field which candidate for the fourth time.

In the first Lok Sabha election held in 2009, Charandas Mahant of Congress won with 3,14,616 votes and a 42.19 percent vote share, defeating BJP candidate Karuna Shukla. In the second election in 2014, BJP’s Banshilal Mahato won against the incumbent MP Charandas Mahant, with a margin of just 4,256 votes. Then, in the 2019 elections, Jyotsna Mahant of Congress defeated BJP’s Jyoti Nandan Dubey with 5,23,410 votes and a 46.03 percent vote share.

In all three elections, there were a total of eight assembly constituencies in the Korba Lok Sabha, including five assemblies of Korba district and three assemblies of the undivided Korea district. The results of the upcoming elections are still unknown, as it is unclear which party will field which candidate. The future MP of Korba Lok Sabha is still uncertain.

These elections are usually a direct contest between Congress and BJP, with other small parties also fielding candidates. The results of the upcoming elections will be eagerly awaited as the history of Korba Lok Sabha has seen changes in MP representation over the years.
